Anna and Eric Outreach Coordinators

While the Tech Team works to turn their EcoCAR designs into functioning prototype vehicles, the Outreach Team focuses on building public awareness of these technologies, as well as, on the initiatives of the EcoCAR competition.

As the Outreach Coordinators, Eric Mallia and Anna Sinicki have the privilege of leading a strong team of 16 students to organize, manage and oversee the execution of outreach activities including planning and executing local EcoCAR events, obtaining local media coverage, using online marketing tools to educate and inform the public about EcoCAR, as well as building community and educational awareness about EcoCAR and the team.

Eric is a graduate student in the Environment and Resource Studies program and he brings five years of industry experience in sales and marketing, account management, teaching and professional training roles to the team. His interests include corporate social responsibility, environmental education and sustainability tools and approaches.

Anna is pursuing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Wilfrid Laurier University. With her experience in research, marketing communications, and project management, as well as an overall flair for creativity, Anna aspires to apply her skills in marketing and brand management to the success of Outreach programs and events.

Education Team Education Team

This position involves interacting with educators across Ontario and participation in a variety of events promoting the benefits of alternatively-powered vehicles through presentations, information sharing, and the development of youth-friendly activities.

Stevey has been involved in the development and organization of a variety of youth programs as well as numerous leadership initiatives. More recently she has overseen internal training and promotions for a new IT system within a large organization.

Stephanie has had a lot of experience working as an outdoor educator, teaching children and youth about the natural environment that surrounds them.

Sorena has been involved with youth education from a very early age assisting teachers within her schools. Since then she has been involved with various learning initiatives across the Waterloo region. Over the past three years she has been working with the University IST department creating and teaching software courses for staff, faculty and students on campus.

Kyle has a bachelor of education and a variety of experience volunteering with youth programs.

The Online Marketing team consists of five members from the Environment and Business Program: Cecilia Cheng, Dan Forma, Emily Tam, Loni Tsui, and Michelle Courtemanche. This unique program combines traditional business concepts and incorporates them into environmental issues facing the world today.

Loni has past experience in researching about alternative fuels while working for the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

Cecilia brings with her industry experience working for Toyota Canada Inc. in the Technical Operations department as well as a graphic design background.

Dan has past experience working at the Ministry of Environment, the Ontario Reality Corporation and Sims Recycling Solutions. His interest in EcoCAR has spurred from his interest in both cars and sustainability.

Emily has considerable experience with planning, organizing, and managing resources through working for Shoppers Drug Mart as a senior project coordinator.

Michelle has previous experience working at the Ontario Science Centre, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and an Environmental Consulting Firm Golder Associates, where many aspects of sustainable design were a focus.

The team’s objective is to utilize the capabilities of ‘e-marketing’ to reach the global market and to generate as much buzz about the EcoCAR competition and UWAFT.

dsc_0616 Sponsorship Team

The Sponsorship team is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with sponsors to raise finances and other resources for UWAFT. This team consists of forth-year Environment and Business students Alwin Cheung, Delafriya Dorabjee, Max Kan, Philip Kwan and a second-year Accounting student Emily Vanderkruk.

Alwin has worked at Scotiabank as a Quality Assurance Analyst and he has superior analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Delafriya has worked in various government and private organizations, which have taught her to be a team player with strong communication and organizational skills.

Max has previously worked as a Project Assistant at York Region where he was the project lead for several assignments. He is a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

Philip has worked at Hydro One in the Strategy group where he was involved in a number of process creations related to Health, Safety, and Environment. He has strong research, and organizational skills.

Emily has been a part of UWAFT since January 2009. Through her participation in the EcoCAR competition, she has gained valuable experience communicating with industry professionals and educating the public, including elementary and high school students, about alternative fuels technology.

The sponsorship team looks forward to being a part of UWAFT for the EcoCAR competition.
